Egypt Poised To Sweep Squash World Championships

PSA Squash World Championships 2024-25 has reached its final stage and it is the Egyptians who are yet again dominating the tournament in Chicago, United States. 

The African nation is set to sweep the competition after an all-Egyptian semi-finals in both men’s and women’s competition. 

The Squash World Championships will witness new winners after Hania El Hammamy and Ali Farag took down title defenders Nouran Gohar and Diego Elias in their respective semis.

El Hammany world’s top-ranked female player Gohar 9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-6 in the semifinal. In her first final appearance, she will be up against compatriot and seven-time world champion Nour El Sherbini.

“Today is the second biggest day of my life so far, tomorrow is going to be the biggest. I’m over the moon, and I’m so proud of how I managed my emotions. I kept calm, I wasn’t too up or too down, and it was a challenge,” El Hammamy told the PSA.

“It’s really big to come through and beat the defending champion. I told myself that today would be the day I came out on top, so it’s a massive proud moment.”

On the other hand, world number two El Sherbini makes a case for herself after qualifying for her 10th straight final with a win over American Olivia Weaver.

In the men’s competition at the Squash World Championships, Farag will be bidding to become the most successful male Egyptian player at the world championship as he eyes his fifth title. 

The 33-year-old entered the final with a 3-0 win over Peru’s defending champion Elias in their semi-final clash.

Farag has won all his previous World Championship finals and this time he faces compatriot Mostafa Asal in the summit clash.

Squash is set to make its Olympic debut at LA 2028 as players are looking to make it big at the big global stage.
