Emma Raducanu loses her first match on her return

The US Open champion was defeated in straight sets by Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round of the Indian Wells

Emma Raducanu lost her first match after her return to the court following last month’s US Open triumph. The young English star was beaten in straight sets by 100th seed Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the second round of the Indian Wells.

An aggressive Emma made unforced errors in the first set. The Belarussian veteran Aliaksandra capitalized on the young star’s mistakes and took home the first set.

However, Emma Raducanu had a good start to the second round and took a 2-0 lead over Sasnovich. The veteran however settled in and turned the game around winning four straight sets, grabbing the victory. She beat the US Open champion 6-2 and 6-4 in two straight sets.

Emma Raducanu had not lost a single set in the entire US Open tournament. Despite the huge expectations on her shoulders, Emma was not disappointed by the result at all.

The tour was Emma’s third tour in her professional career and she was quite accepting of the fact of her inexperience. The young star praised Aliaksandra for her victory and said the Belarusian completely deserved the victory.

Aliaksandra overturned a 4-2 lead for Emma to a 6-4 win in the second set with four straight game points.

Emma Raducanu had to say this on her opponent’s experience:

“She’s been on tour, probably been 4-2 down like hundreds of times, whereas I’ve been 4-2 up. It’s my third WTA tournament this year. I mean, it will come in time. Just got to not rush it and keep going and get my head back to the drawing board, really.

She has played, you could tell she’s more experienced than me. She went out there and executed her game plan better than I did. She, of course, deserved to win that.”
