Gill’s Gritty Innings Anchors the Indian Line-up

In the second Test, Shubman Gill continued his good form. India was asked to bat first but had a poor start. KL Rahul was out for 2 runs in the 9th over. Karun Nair, who came in at number 3, scored 31 runs from 50 balls before getting out in the 24th over.

Shubman Gill came in after Nair’s dismissal and played carefully. He showed a lot of patience and reached his slowest half-century, taking 125 balls to get there.

Shubman Gill built a steady 66-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal (131 balls) and then added 47 runs with Rishabh Pant (90 balls), putting pressure on England.

Though Nitish Kumar Reddy couldn’t support him, Ravindra Jadeja played a superb innings to help his captain. Together, Gill and Jadeja turned the game in India’s favor, with Shubman Gill scoring a brilliant century.

He reached his hundred on the 199th ball, hitting a four off Joe Root in the 80th over. Shubman Gill celebrated with passion as he became the third Indian to score a century in Birmingham after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. He also became the fourth Indian – after Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, and Virat Kohli – to score hundreds in his first two Tests as captain.
