ENG vs ITA: England will look to confirm their spot in the Super Eight stage with a win against Italy

Former T20 World Cup winners England will take on Italy in the upcoming match of the T20 World Cup. Both teams would aim to come up with a strong performance with bat, ball and in the field in order to be on the right side of the result and register their second consecutive win, having won the last games respectively.

England got the better of Scotland at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and needs to win the match against Italy to qualify for the next round. However, if the Harry Brook-led side fails to cross the line, things will get difficult for them, and they will have to depend on the result of other games to decide their fate.

Italy, on the other hand, will be high on confidence after registering their first win in the history of the T20 World Cup and would want to replicate the same performance against England. The onus will be on Mosca brothers, both of whom scored half-centuries to help their team register a historic win to come to the party once again if Italy want to give England a run for their money.

ENG vs ITA: Captains’ Speak

Harry Brook, the England captain, said that they would like to bat first after winning the toss. Brook admitted that they are aware of the permutations and combinations that have emerged in the tournament, but would like to post an above-par total on the board to create pressure on the opposition. England haven’t made any changes to the playing XI for the game against Italy.

Harry Manenti, who continues to lead Italy in the absence of Wayne Madsen, said that the team’s regular captain may return for the next game. Manenti added that the team is up and about after a few days’ rest following their victory against Nepal and is looking forward to this important clash. Like England, Italy is also going into the game with an unchanged playing XI.

ENG vs ITA: Pitch Report

The pitch at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for the important game between England and Italy is expected to be good for batting, while having something in it for the bowlers, especially the pacers, given that they bowl in the right areas.

As far as the spinners are concerned, they might get some purchase with it being an afternoon game. Having decided to bat first, England should look to score a minimum of 180-190 runs to have an upper hand before the start of the second innings.
