ENG vs WI 2nd ODI – Joe Root’s Century Seals Series For England: England won the three-match ODI series 2-0 after a close three-wicket win against West Indies in the second match at Cardiff on June 1. Joe Root played a brilliant innings, scoring a century to help England win at Sophia Gardens.
ENG vs WI 2nd ODI: England Clinch ODI Series with Another Win
England captain Harry Brook won the toss and chose to bowl first. Brydon Carse gave England an early breakthrough by dismissing Jewel Andrew for zero. However, the West Indies bounced back with a strong partnership between Brandon King and Keacy Carty, adding 141 runs for the second wicket. King was the first to go after scoring 59 runs.
Keacy Carty and captain Shai Hope built a solid 58-run partnership for the third wicket. Carty scored a brilliant 103, while Hope added 78 from 66 balls. However, the rest of the West Indies batters couldn’t handle the pressure from England’s bowlers.
The West Indies cricket team was all out for 308. Adil Rashid starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 63 runs in 10 overs. Saqib Mahmood also did well, grabbing 3 wickets for just 37 runs.
After a big 238-run win in the first ODI, England now leads the series 2-0. The final ODI will be played on June 3 at The Oval, where England will aim for a clean sweep before the T20I series.
ENG vs WI 2nd ODI: Root Becomes England’s Top ODI Run-Scorer
Joe Root became England’s highest run-scorer in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on Sunday, passing Eoin Morgan’s England tally of 6,957 runs. While Morgan has 7,701 ODI runs overall, some were scored for Ireland.
Root crossed 7,000 ODI runs in 168 innings, making him the fifth-fastest to reach the milestone after Amla, Williamson, Virat Kohli, and de Villiers. He reached the mark with a boundary off Matthew Forde in the second ODI against the West Indies.
Root went on to score his 18th ODI century, reaching it in 96 balls. He is also England’s top run-scorer in Test cricket with 13,006 runs.
