England Women have named their 15-player squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, and there’s good news. Nat Sciver-Brunt is back. After missing the last few games of the T20I series due to a groin injury, she’s recovered and ready to lead the team in the 50-over format.
Sciver-Brunt picked up the injury while batting during the second T20I and had to sit out the remaining matches. Tammy Beaumont stepped in as captain for the third T20I at the Kia Oval, where England narrowly defeated India by five runs in a thrilling finish. Despite that win, India currently leads the multi-format series 2-1.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Sciver-Brunt is fully fit and will return as both captain and all-rounder for the ODI series. It begins on July 16 at the Utilita Bowl, followed by matches on July 19 at Lord’s and July 22 at Chester-le-Street.
“Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is expected to play a full part in the series despite missing the end of the Vitality IT20 series with a groin injury,” an official statement from the board on Tuesday, July 8, read.
Star spinner Sophie Ecclestone is back in the England squad after missing the series against the West Indies. She replaces leg-spinner Sarah Glenn in the team. Maia Bouchier, who recently filled in for Nat Sciver-Brunt during the T20Is, also returns to the ODI squad.
Fast bowler Lauren Filer keeps her place after an impressive performance in the third T20I at The Oval. She made headlines by bowling the fastest recorded over in women’s cricket.
England is now getting ready to take on India in the upcoming three-match ODI series and is aiming to put up a strong fight.
English Women ODI squad to face India: Nat Sciver-Brunt (capt), Em Arlott, Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Bell, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Kate Cross, Alice Davidson-Richards, Charlie Dean, Sophia Dunkley, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer, Amy Jones, Emma Lamb, Linsey Smith
