After winning the toss Ravi Bopara the captain of Sussex 2nd XI opted to bat first against Middlesex 2nd XI. They lost their second wicket inside the 5th over while the score read 67 runs at the loss of two wickets. Captain Ravi Bopara then walked in at number four and played a knock that will be remembered for a very long time.
Ravi Bopara’s knock
Ravi Bopara smashed the Middlesex bowlers all over the ground before he was dismissed on the penultimate ball of the innings. He was dismissed for 144 runs scored in just 49 balls. In his knock, he smashed 14 fours and 12 sixes. His strike rate during the knock was 293.87. No bowler was spared from Bopara’s wrath.
The least economical bowler was Ishaan Kaushal who conceded 51 runs in his 4 overs. Kaushal even took 3 wickets. Toby Greatwood was the most expensive among the bowlers. The right-arm medium bowler conceded 64 runs in 4 overs. Joshua De Caires who is a right-arm off-break bowler also conceded 63 runs in his 3 overs.
Second innings
Middlesex 2nd XI in reply got to a very bad start as they lost 3 wickets inside 4 overs. Ravi Bopara who earlier starred with the bat in hand also played a great hand with the ball too. He capped off a wonderful all-round show by picking up four wickets in three overs. Middlesex 2nd XI was eventually bundled out for just 130 runs as they lost the game by 194 runs.
Highest T20 total
By scoring 324 runs, Sussex 2nd XI smashed the record for the highest total. The record was previously held by Afghanistan as they scored 278 runs in their quota of 20 overs against Ireland. In that game, Afghanistan’s openers starred as Hazratullah Zazai scored an unbeaten 162 runs in 62 balls while his opening partner scored 73 runs off 48 balls.
