Erling Haaland scored a hattrick of goals as Norway brushes Gibraltar aside. Norway had 42 shots in the game with, 13 of them on target.
Kristian Thorstvedt opened the scoring in the 23rd minute after a patient build-up from Norway. The left-back Meling picked Thorstvedt, who was unmarked, inside the box with a superb cross into the box. The Norwegian midfielder made no mistake in slotting the ball into the back of the net. Thorstvedt had also scored against Gibraltar in their previous fixture. Meanwhile, Erling Haaland doubled Norway’s lead in the 27th minute after Thorsdvedt, the goalscorer, released the #23 in behind.
After a scramble inside the Gibraltar penalty area, the ball landed kindly for Haaland who coolly slotted the ball in the far post for his second goal of the night. However, Gibraltar pulled a goal back, late in the first half. Reece Styche scored the only goal of the night for Gibraltar after a rare mistake from the Norwegian defense left the #9 one-against-one with the Goalkeeper. The striker delicately chipped the ball past Nyland to score the goal.
Alexander Sorloth scored Norway’s fourth goal in the 59th minute of the match. Meanwhile, Haaland scored his third goal and got his hattrick in the stoppage time. The Norwegian forward has now scored five goals in three games for Norway in this international break.
With this victory, Norway moves to the play-off spot of second place in the table. Meanwhile, Gibraltar is at the bottom of the table with no points to its name.
Elsewhere, Netherlands beat a ten men Turkey 6-1 to move to the top of the table. As a result, Turkey who was in the top spot before tonight’s fixture goes down to the third place.
