Get ready, gamers! This summer, the inaugural Esports World Cup (EWC) lands in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This ambitious tournament boasts a record-breaking $60 million prize pool spread across 20 different games, making it the biggest esports event ever.

In-depth Analysis of Specific Games

PUBG Mobile

As part of Timothy Studio’s collaboration with the Esports World Cup Foundation, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will play host to the official PUBG Mobile World Cup in 2024. This is the 2024 game’s international mid-season event. There will be 28 teams from global regional leagues that can compete in July’s $3 million prize money event. Teams will continue to compete in regional contests to win their spots. 

OverWatch 2

Following the Overwatch League’s collapse in 2023, Overwatch will enter a crucial stage of development, leading to a more open ecosystem. In association with Blizzard, the Saudi-owned ESL FACEIT Group will oversee the Overwatch Champions Series, a competition that serves as a qualifying round for the 2024 Esports World Cup. 

Tekken 8

The last game on this list is the fighting game Tekken 8. Players who participate in different World Tour events can still gain entry to the Esports World Cup even though they are not officially a part of the Tekken World Tour. As per the current announcements, competition will be open to the top six players from EVO Japan. Dreamhack Dallas will also have an official Esports World Cup Qualifier for Tekken 8, with the winner receiving a seat in the competition. There are still unknowns regarding the format, prize money size, and the full schedule of qualifying tournaments. Later on, more qualifiers might be revealed.

League of Legend

One of the most popular esports games worldwide, League of Legends, will also be featured in the 2024 Esports World Cup. Although they were not participating, Riot Games allowed space on their official esports roadmap for teams to practice and compete. 

Mobile Legend: Bang Bang

Major League Baseball is another sport in which the Esports World Cup is closely associated with the official esports ecosystem. During the game, the Mid-Season Cup (MSC), formerly known as the MLBB Women’s Invitational (MWI), will take place in Saudi Arabia. This is the first time that these two events have taken place outside of Southeast Asia (SEA). with $5 million prize money.

Honor of Kings

Though Honor of Kings is still in the early stages of development, in 2024 it will have a strong presence at the Esports World Cup. 

Twelve teams will compete for a share of the $3 million prize money at the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason, which is set to take place in Riyadh.

FreeFire

The first game on this list to be completely integrated into the official global esports ecosystem is Free Fire, which will compete in the Esports World 2024 event. Teams can qualify for the competition by participating in official Free Fire World Series (FFWS) events that take place around the country. A spot in the 2024 FFWS Global Finals will also be awarded to the tournament champion. 

Fortnite

The next game on the list is Fortnite, which has a slightly different design from previous Battle Royale titles. A brand-new, “competitive UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) island experience” is planned, according to the Esports World Cup Organization. 

EA FC 2024

One way for players to get into the Esports World Cup 2024 of EA FC is to participate in DreamHack Dallas and DreamHack Summer in Sweden. Additionally, the top players will receive a direct invitation to the competition. The exact format and prize money have not yet been revealed.

According to the company, the August event will not be a part of EA Sports’ EA FC Pro environment.

Counter-Strike

The Esports World Cup Counter-Strike 2 competition will take place from July 17–21. For a portion of the $1 million in prize money, fifteen teams from throughout the globe will compete. The organizations now comprise the top seven teams from the ESL World Ranking, which includes groups like MOUZ, FaZe Clan, and G2 Esports. The final four teams were chosen through regional qualifiers held in the Middle East (Jijie Hao), Asia (The MongolZ), Oceania (FlyQuest), and South America (MIBR).

Dota 2

The Riyadh Masters will be back in 2024, having first competed in Gamers8, a multi-title esports championship hosted in Saudi Arabia last year. 

In July, twenty teams will compete for a portion of the $5 million prize money that will be awarded. Regional qualifiers and qualifications are linked to the ESL Pro Tour leaderboard. A couple of the teams that have already been confirmed for the competition are Team Liquid, Team Falcons, and BetBoom Team.

A Thrilling Summer for Esports Fans

The EWC promises eight weeks of intense competition, kicking off in July and culminating in August. With a diverse game selection, a massive prize pool, and a focus on both established and emerging titles, this event is poised to be a landmark moment in esports history.
