Welcome to Anfield

Anfield, the home field of Liverpool FC, is one of the most well-known football stadiums in the world. The stadium has hosted the club’s home matches since 1892 and was formerly the former home of city rivals Everton FC before they moved to Goodison Park. It recently underwent a redevelopment to increase its capacity to over 54,000, with plans for future addition.

Anfield is renowned for its electric atmosphere, with the Spion Kop standing behind one of the goals frequently serving as the spark for the imposing wall of clamour that welcomes the teams onto the field.

29 Years Without a Premier League Championship

Many Liverpool supporters would choose Premier League victory over Champions League victory if they had to choose between the two. The Reds won the Champions League in 2005 with their epic comeback victory over AC Milan in Istanbul. They also finished second in 2007 and 2018.

The Merseyside team hasn’t won the league in 29 years, and their last of 18 titles came in 1990. A team led by Brendan Rogers came within one goal of beating Manchester City in 2014, despite Luis Suárez’s 31 goals, which earned him the Golden Shoe accolade as Europe’s best league goal scorer.

US Owners

Even though it may be difficult to believe, Liverpool FC was in dire straits financially in 2010 before to being purchased by the Fenway Sports Group, the US-based owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team. The team now has stability both on and off the field thanks to the change in ownership. In order to increase the stadium’s capacity to over 54,000, a much-needed extension was built. The team won the League Cup in 2012, and in 2014, they came very close to winning their 19th league championship. In his debut season as head coach in 2016, Jurgen Klopp led the team to the UEFA Europe League final before losing to Sevilla of Spain.
