Faf du Plessis fined for slow over-rate, Avesh Khan breaches code of conduct

Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Faf du Plessis was fined for a slow over-rate in their clash against Lucknow Super Giants on the 10th of April.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, Faf du Plessis was handed a fine for maintaining a slow over-rate. Faf was given a fine of INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Faf du Plessis

After LSG asked the three-time finalists to bat first, the RCB captain led his team in scoring. Du Plessis reached his second season fifty with an unbeaten 79 off 46 deliveries. Faf du Plessis is now ranked third on the Orange Cap list, however, his most recent knock was in vain as RCB lost two games in a row.

In a nail-biting contest, LSG managed to defeat RCB on the last ball on the 10th of April. Tensions were high in the death overs as RCB needed to defend 24 runs in 18 balls. Bangalore already received an on-field infraction for their very slow over-rate. They were forced to bring in an extra fielder inside the circle after failing to start the 20th over before the deadline, leaving only four in the deep by the boundary line.

Avesh Khan

Regarding the event, which also had Avesh Khan breaking the Code of Conduct, the IPL issued a brief statement. After scoring the decisive run that gave the visitors the victory, the No. 11 batter was spotted tossing his helmet to the ground. The pacer has acknowledged the Level 1 infraction.

Avesh entered the batting order on the last ball of the innings when Jaydev Unadkat was removed by the RCB on Harshal Patel’s penultimate delivery.

Even though the tailender was unable to make contact with the ball with the bat, Dinesh Karthik’s fumble behind the stumps was more than enough to allow the batting pair to quickly advance for a bye.

It was a great batting performance from the overseas stars of LSG to put them in the driving seat of the game. Australian all-rounder, Marcus Stoinis smashed a quick fifty and was dismissed scoring 65 runs off 30 balls. While the West-Indian keeper batter, Nicholas Pooran scored the fastest half-century of the season. Pooran scored 62 runs in 19 balls. Pooran hit 7 sixes and 4 fours. Youngster, Ayush Badoni scored 30 runs off 24 balls hitting 4 fours. Badoni almost finished the match before he got out due to an unfortunate hit wicket. Interestingly, the ball on which Badoni got out went for a six, but he was dismissed as his bat hit the stumps.
