While players in Europe will compete in the UEFA Nations League, teams in South America and Asia will continue their World Cup qualifiers. Players representing African countries for AFCON and North American teams will also play some friendlies.

As the football season goes into the October international break, here are some players to watch out for during their international duties.

Messi will appear in Argentine colours for the first time since the final of the 2024 Copa America which his side won. On the back of having an incredible run for Inter Miami this season, Messi will look to deliver for his country. Argentina will take on Venezuela and Bolivia in their World Cup qualifiers and Messi is one of the top players to watch out for.

After an underwhelming 2024 Euros, Ronaldo will be hoping to shoulder the responsibility of his nation for good results. The forward scored two goals for Portugal last month and will be headlining the squad with eight goals in nine competitions across all competitions this season.

  1. Cole Palmar 

Cole Palmar was named England’s men Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season is arguably the most informed English footballer currently. He has had an incredible start to the season with six goals in seven games for Chelsea and is only getting better by the day. The 22-year-old has been largely underused in the national team, however, his current red-hot form might see him playing more minutes for the Three Lions.

Lamine Yamal had shone in Euro 2024 for Spain and one hopes he would continue his form into the October international break. He was one of the first names to be part of Spain’s squad for their nation’s league games against Denmark and Serbia. The Barcelona winger has created waves as an emerging talent in football and the 17-year-old is carving his path to a glorious career in the sport.

Robert Lewandowski has been one of the best strikers among active football players. Julian Alvarez made headlines during the Copa America 2024 for some stellar performances for Argentina. It would be interesting to see if he would be able to replicate the heroics for his national team during the international break. Although he has scored only  three goals for his new club Atletico Madrid, the 24-year-old has the potential to turn it around for Argentina.
