The Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), were unusually silent for a large portion of the IPL super auction earlier this month in Bengaluru. However, their first auction purchase, the youthful Ishan Kishan, cost a hefty INR 15.25 crore. Despite the fact that it was a triumphant homecoming for the 23-year-old Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, Ishan revealed that he was concerned during the IPL auction bidding battle, stating that his heart had missed a beat.
Ishan confessed to the Times of India that he was nervous when the price increased since he knew MI wanted to develop a good team before stating why he wanted to make a comeback into the Mumbai Indians squad. “I knew MI was going to go after me. That wasn’t the most concerning aspect. The escalating cost was concerning since MI needed to conserve money to create the remainder of the team. It wasn’t just about me, either. “I must admit, my heart skipped a beat there for a while,” he admitted. Ishan, who formerly played for the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, joined the Mumbai Indians in 2018 for a fee of NR 6.2 crores. He scored 1133 runs in 41 innings with the team, averaging 31.5 and a strike rate of 138.5. Ishan ended as Mumbai’s leading run-scorer in the 2020 IPL season, hitting 516 runs in 14 games.
