The pinnacle of the clay season is here with the French Open set to get rolling. The main draw ceremony took place on Thursday (May 22) to determine the matchups.
The qualifying rounds are currently underway and will conclude on Friday, with the tournament proper to run from May 25 to June 8.
French Open 2025 Draw
Three-time Roland Garros champion Novak Djokovic has been drawn in the in the same half with world number one Jannik Sinner in men’s singles. The Italian, who is looking for his maiden French Open crown, is facing France’s Arthur Rinderknech in the opening round.
The Australian Open 2025 champion, who is making his Grand Slam return after a doping suspension, would face one of two French wild cards Terence Atmane or Richard Gasquet. He could meet Djokovic in the semi-finals, provided both progress to the last-four stage.
The 2024 runner-up Alexander Zverev, too, is in the same half, and could be facing with the Serbian in the quarters. While 38-year-old Djokovic hock horns with Mackenzie McDonald in the first round, Zverev takes on Learner Tien for his opener.
Meanwhile, defending champion Alcaraz will be up against Japanese veteran Kei Nishikori in the first round. The Spaniard could be meeting 13th seed Ben Shelton in the fourth round, and former French Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas is also a possible opponent.
Casper Ruud, who recently won Madrid Open, is seeded to face Alcaraz in the last-eight stage. The 2022 and 2023 French Open finalist would be hoping to cross the final line.

In the women’s draw, defending champion Iga Swiatek, has been struggling for form. Often referred to as the “Queen of Clay”, she will open her campaign against Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova. The Pole faces a potential semi-final against world number one Aryna Sabalenka, after a quarter-final clash with last year’s runner-up Jasmine Paolini of Italy.
On the other hand, world number one Sabalenka takes on Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia in the opening round.
“This season has had ups and down, but I know my game is there,” Swiatek said after the draw.
Another blockbuster clash in the first round would be Japan’s Naomi Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, taking on Spanish 10th seed Paula Badosa.
On the other side of the draw, second seed American Coco Gauff will open her campaign against Australian Olivia Gadecki with a possible all-American semi-final looming against Jessica Pegula, the third seed.
Another American, Madison Keys, could obstruct in the way of Gauff in the quarter-finals.
