Paris Olympics 2024: Golf Course
Golf first featured in the Olympics in 1900 in the Paris Games followed by the 1904 Games in Missouri. The sport then went missing from Olympics for decades only to make a return in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games and was contested again at the 2020 Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The sport of golf is set to feature at the Paris Olympics 2024 marking its third consecutive appearance at the Summer Games. Here are some of the key points to know about the sport in the Paris Games.
Qualification
The International Golf Federation (IGF) utilizes the official world golf rankings to determine eligibility for the Olympics. The top-15 world-ranked players automatically qualified for the Olympics, with a limit of four players from a given country. Beyond the top 15, players qualified based on the world rankings. Only a maximum of two players are eligible from each country that does not already have two or more athletes among the top-15.
Field

There are two separate individual events, one each for men and women. Each are 72-hole stroke-play tournaments like that of the PGA Tour and LPGA. The contestant shooting the lowest score wins the gold medal, with second place earning silver and third earning bronze. In an event of ties for any of the places, there will be a playoff with only three total medals being awarded.
