Harbhajan Singh Slammed Lalit Modi: The infamous Indian Premier League (IPL) “slapgate” scandal from almost two decades ago has suddenly resurfaced, and it’s all over social media again. Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi decided to leak the long-unseen video of the incident, sparking fresh debate online.
Modi recently appeared on Michael Clarke’s Beyond 23 podcast, where the infamous episode was discussed. While most cricket fans already knew that Harbhajan Singh had slapped teammate S Sreesanth during the 2008 IPL season, the actual footage had never been made public until now.
Harbhajan Singh Hit Back At Lalit Modi
The video’s release hasn’t gone down well. Sreesanth’s wife has openly criticized Lalit Modi for putting it out on the internet, and Harbhajan himself has strongly condemned the move, calling out the former IPL boss for having “selfish motives.”
Speaking to Instant Bollywood, Harbhajan said:
“The way the video has been leaked, it’s wrong. It shouldn’t have happened. They might have a selfish motive behind it. Something that happened 18 years ago, people have forgotten, and they are reminding people about it.”

Harbhajan Singh’s Apology and Reflection
Over the years, Harbhajan Singh has repeatedly apologized to Sreesanth for the incident, and the two have since moved past it. Still, with the video now going viral, he felt the need to once again express his regret.
“I feel bad for whatever happened. We were playing, and everyone had things going on in their mind. Mistakes happened, and we do feel ashamed about it,” he said.
He added:
“Yes, the video has gone viral. It was an unfortunate incident, and I have said on many occasions that I made a mistake. Humans make mistakes, and I did one too. I have requested Lord Ganesh to forgive me if I make a mistake again. Mistakes happen.”
Meanwhile, a few days ago, after the video was leaked, Bhuvneshwari Sreesanth, the wife of former Indian pacer Sreesanth, also took to her social media and slammed the former IPL chairman and former Australian captain Michael Clarke for reviving the controversy.
Sreesanth’s Wife Slammed Lalit Modi
Reacting to the viral clip of the infamous controversy, Bhuvneshwari took to her Instagram and shared a strong statement slamming both Modi and Clarke for chasing attention by reopening the painful episode. She wrote:
“Shame on you, Lalit Modi and Michael Clarke. You people are not even human to drag up something from 2008 just for your own cheap publicity and views. Both @sreesanthnair36 and Harbhajan have long moved on; they are fathers now with school-going children, and yet you try to throw them back into an old wound. Absolutely disgusting, heartless, and inhuman,”

The Original Punishment
Back in 2008, right after the incident, Harbhajan Singh was handed an 11-match suspension by the IPL. While the controversy eventually faded with time, Lalit Modi’s decision to bring the video into the public domain has reopened old wounds, something neither Harbhajan Singh nor Sreesanth seems happy about.
