Harry Kane To be Benched In Must-Win Game Against Greece?
Harry Kane has expressed his disappointment at the high number of withdrawals from the England squad this week, insisting the national team must come first.
Harry Kane could be a shock omission from Lee Carsley’s England team for Thursday’s must-win Nations League fixture against Greece in Athens.
The Bayern Munich star captain has travelled to the Greek capital in all fitness and is set to be benched for the game. The selection news has stunned the England squad that has been perturbed by a series of withdrawals.
Carsley has been trying to be creative during his interim tenure. His decision to cast Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden as false 9s in an ultra-attacking lineup against Greece at Wembley last month ended in a disastrous 2-1 defeat. Now he is said to prefer Ollie Watkins over Harry Kane in the No 9 role this time.
Nine players have withdrawn from the England squad. Jarrad Branthwaite, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Bukayo Saka and Aaron Ramsdale have all pulled out from the England squad, meaning that interim boss Carlsley is having to shuffle his pack and get creative.

The Three Lion’s captain said it was a “shame” that so many players had withdrawn.
“It’s a tough period of the season and maybe that’s been taken advantage of a little bit,” he said.
“I don’t really like it if I’m totally honest. I think England comes before anything, any club situation.

According to reports, Carlsley has still found no place for Kane within his starting XI. It comes as a shocker that their all-time leading goalscorer is being overlooked.
Harry Kane has scored 68 goals for England in 101 appearances, having made his senior debut back in 2015. The 31-year-old has been a prolific scorer for Bayern Munich, even grabbing attention of several elite clubs for future signings.
