In today’s times One Day Cricket is trying to fight for its place. Test has its moment of grit and patience while T20 cricket has its own excitement. Some would say that ODI has neither of those. But the romantics of the game would say that ODI has the perfect balance of patience and fast pace game. Here are the players with most man of the matches in ODI.
Sachin Tendulkar, 62
Nobody needs to introduce Sachin Tendulkar. He is undoubtedly the most well-known and acclaimed cricketer in history, and his statistics support that claim. It is impressive and demonstrates what an incredible player he was that he received 62 man of the match awards over a period of 23 years. He once won matches for India by himself while carrying the entire squad on his shoulders. He has made enormous contributions to the ODI game and holds every batting record imaginable.
Sanath Jayasuriya, 48
He is one of Sri Lanka’s all-time best cricketers. By being so aggressive at the top of the order and upsetting the bowlers while scoring a tonne of runs for his country, Sanath Jayasuriya changed the way ODI cricket was played. He was also outstanding with the ball, taking crucial wickets at crucial moments during a match, which is why he has won so many man of the match awards. He is a legendary figure in the sport. He won 48 man of the matches during his 22-year career for Sri Lanka.
Virat Kohli, 38*
Virat Kohli once was and maybe still is the ‘King’ of ODI cricket. The great of the game certainly had a lot to prove as early in the career comparisons with Sachin were made by experts and fans. Kohli is certainly the chase master in ODIs. He has scored close to 13,000 runs. He has 46 centuries in the format and only sits behind Sachin’s 49. There are a lot of the greats but for someone to score these many runs at a strike rate of 93.63 and at an average of 57.32 is crazy. Kohli has already won 38 man of the matches and could finish above Jayasuriya.
