“I don’t see his name popping up for T20 World Cup,” Sunil Gavaskar on this Indian opener

Sunil Gavaskar feels this better won’t get a spot in the Indian squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Sunil Gavaskar had made a big statement on Shikhar Dhawan regarding his selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Former Indian cricketer feels it is very difficult that opening batter Shikhar Dhawan won’t get a chance in the T20I World Cup. Sunil Gavaskar thinks his (Shikhar) spot in the Indian World Cup squad looks unlikely as he wasn’t picked up by the selectors for the series against Ireland.

“No. I don’t see his name popping up (for the upcoming T20 World Cup). If it had to pop up, it would have been in this squad (to play Ireland). A lot of guys have gone to England and he could have been in this squad. If he is not in this squad, I don’t see him ending in the mix (for T20 World Cup),” said Sunil Gavaskar on opening better Shikhar Dhawan via Star Sports.

Shikhar Dhawan was also named in the Indian squad for the 5-match T20I series against South Africa which ended up in 2-2. Selectors used Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the opening but the experienced batter (Shikhar Dhawan) wasn’t given a chance. Thus, Indian legend (Sunil Gavaskar) thinks Shikhar Dhawan won’t be with the squad for the World Cup starting from October 2022.
