Yuzvendra Chahal made his international debut in 2016 and spent much of his career with MS Dhoni, the former Indian captain. Chahal’s growth in limited-overs formats was aided by Dhoni’s function as a wicketkeeper-batter behind the stumps, and Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have often discussed Dhoni’s role as a wicketkeeper in their bowling.
Chahal mentioned a game from 2018 in which he conceded 64 runs in a T20I against South Africa during a talk with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Dhoni approached the leg-spinner and offered him assistance during the difficult period, according to the leg-spinner.
“Once, in a T20I match in South Africa, when I was hit for 64 runs and (Heinrich) Klassen had hit me all over the park, Mahi bhai ordered me to come around the wicket. I did that, and he struck me for a six over mid-greatest wicket’s boundary. Then Mahi bhai approached me, and I replied, “Yes, Mahi bhai, ab kya karna hai?” (How should I proceed?)’ ‘Kuch nahi, mai to waisehi aagaya tere paas,’ he continued. (I just came to check on you),” Chahal explained.
“I get that today isn’t your day; you’re trying, but it’s not working out. ‘Zyada sochna nahi, apne chaar ka quota khatam kar aur chill kar'”
The leg-spinner stated that Dhoni’s backing was crucial at the moment, and that he understood that he could not always play to his full potential.
“If someone scolds you at that time, your self-assurance plummets even farther. However, he assured me that it was only one match. ‘You did so well in ODIs, you won’t do well in every match, others are playing as well,’ he remarked. I also discovered that in cricket, you can have good days and bad days, and sometimes it’s just not your day. I also learned that when it’s not your day, you shouldn’t strive too hard and instead be conservative, allowing others to take wickets by applying pressure “Chahal stated.
