In a significant fillip to their World T20 Cup preparation in 2026, Nepal has appointed former Australian all-rounder Ian Harvey as the team’s bowling consultant coach for the national male side. The appointment is a sign that cricket-playing nation Nepal is ready to make an impact when the T20 World Cup 2026 is held in both India and Sri Lanka in 2026.
Ian Harvey to Work Alongside Head Coach Stuart Law
He will be working in tandem with his countryman, Stuart Law, who at the moment is the head coach of Nepal. With experience in loads, the experienced duo promises to bring international knowledge to sharpen Nepal’s bowling attack ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
Ian Harvey’s International Playing and Coaching Experience
Currently 53, Ian Harvey played a considerable career for Australia internationally. He appeared in 73 One-Day Internationals, in which he took 85 wickets, besides scoring 715 runs. At the same time, he was part of Australia’s winning side in the ODI World Cup of 2003, which took place in South Africa.
Apart from his involvement with the international cricket team, Harvey has also been involved in coaching roles with Gloucestershire while previously playing with this county as an overseas professional.
A Proven T20 Specialist
He gained a high reputation as a T20 allrounder-clever variations, pin-point yorkers and deceitful slower balls along with the ability to go berserk with the bat down the order. In 54 T20s he collected 52 wickets and an impressive 1,470 runs.
His T20 credentials are:
Becoming the first centurion in England’s inaugural Twenty20 Cup back in 2003.
Being named Player of the Tournament in the first-ever Indian Cricket League (ICL) in 2007.
This expertise is expected to play a very important role in Nepal’s preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Nepal’s T20 World Cup 2026 Campaign
The Nepali team will start their T20 World Cup 2026 journey on February 8 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, against England. All of Nepal’s group-stage matches are scheduled to be played in the same venue.
Learning from Past World Cup Experience
Nepal played a series of four matches in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Although the team was unable to win these matches, their performance was extremely classy while competing against the likes of South Africa and Bangladesh.
