New Zealand vs Pakistan: ICC Fines Pakistan For Slow Over-Rate In Opening ODI

Pakistan has been fined 10 percent of their match fee for a slow over-rate in the first One-day International against New Zealand in Napier on Saturday.

Pakistan Fined for Slow Over-rate in First ODI Against New Zealand

The ICC stated, “Jeff Crowe of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Mohammad Rizwan’s side was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration.”

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined five percent of their match fees for each over their team fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Rizwan admitted to the offense and accepted the proposed penalty, so there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge was made by on-field umpires Chris Brown and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Michael Gough, and fourth umpire Wayne Knights.

Mark Chapman’s Career-Best 132 Leads New Zealand to Victory

Mark Chapman played a career-best innings of 132 runs off 111 balls, helping New Zealand secure a 73-run victory in the first ODI at McLean Park. His brilliant knock, along with Daryl Mitchell’s solid 76 and Muhammad Abbas’s record-breaking debut fifty (the fastest-ever debut fifty), led the hosts to a commanding total of 344.

Pakistan appeared to be on track to chase down the target for much of their innings. Babar Azam’s solid 78 and Salman Agha’s aggressive fifty put them in a strong position. However, a sudden collapse saw them lose seven wickets for just 22 runs, quickly falling from 249 for 3 to 271 all out.

In other news, New Zealand will be without Mark Chapman for the second ODI in Hamilton on Wednesday due to a right hamstring injury. Chapman picked up the injury while fielding in the first ODI in Napier, and an MRI revealed a grade one tear, which will need a brief recovery period.

Tim Seifert, a top-order batter, will replace Chapman for the second ODI. Seifert joins the squad after a standout T20I series against Pakistan, where he finished as the top run-scorer with 249 runs, averaging 62.
