Rohit Sharma Named Ambassador for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: India’s former captain Rohit Sharma has taken on a special new role. He has officially been announced as the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be hosted in India and Sri Lanka.
A Career Full of T20I Milestones
Rohit Sharma’s connection with the T20 World Cup runs deep. He guided India to the trophy in 2024 and now returns to the global event in a different capacity. His impact in T20Is is well known. He finished his career with 4231 runs, averaging 32.01 with a strike-rate of 140.89.
He is also part of an elite group of players who have won two T20 World Cups. The first came in 2007, during the inaugural edition of the tournament, which also happened to be Rohit Sharma’s debut in the format. He made a strong impression that year, scoring 88 runs without being dismissed. His unbeaten 50 against South Africa and 30 in the final against Pakistan are still fond memories for fans.
Leading India to Glory in 2024
Rohit Sharma’s second World Cup win came in 2024, but this one was even more special because he lifted the trophy as captain. He led from the front, finishing as India’s top scorer with 257 runs at a strike-rate of 156.70.
His aggressive starts repeatedly put India ahead in matches. Standout knocks like 92 off 41 against Australia in the Super Eights and 57 off 39 against England in the semifinal proved just how important he was during the campaign.
After ending India’s 11-year wait for an ICC title, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20Is, leaving on the highest note possible.
Rohit Sharma Reacts to His New Role
Rohit Sharma expressed his excitement about being named the tournament ambassador. He said, “It is great to have the tournament back in India and for me to be associated once again with the tournament, this time in a new capacity as the Brand Ambassador.
“I wish all the players the very best and hope they have a memorable time and enjoy India’s hospitality while taking back a lot of memories.”
Tournament Dates Announced
The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to take place from 7 February to 8 March 2026. With Rohit Sharma now part of the event in a new role and the tournament returning to India, fans are in for an exciting month of cricket.
