The second edition of the Ice Hockey League has dished out an action-packed day of great thrilling contests, particularly outstanding performances in men’s as well as women’s leagues. One of the notable performers here was Tsewang Chuskit who showed great sparkle scoring five goals in her side’s comprehensive 6-0 victory against Humas Queens, earning a ticket for Lamos into the semi-finals in the women’s category, it marked an important milestone for the team in the competition.

The first women’s match of the day was characterized by Changla Lamos’ dominant performance against Humas Queens. Tsewang Chuskit’s five-goal strike assured a win. The team began strongly with Chuskit finding the back of the net twice during the first period, once in the 6th minute and again in the 15th. With a 2-0 lead going into the second period, the team continued to go through the motions and showed no intention of slowing up.

A 29th-minute goal from Tsewang Yagdol sent the team soaring ahead by increasing the lead further by two more from Chuskit, which put them at 5-0, and then added one more into the final period, which meant Lamos played defensively to stop Queens from making any comeback, scoring one last time to seal 6-0. With this stunning win, Changla Lamos qualified for the semi-final stages in the women’s category, revealing the power and coordination within the entire match.

Winner: Purig Warriors in Men’s Category

On the men’s side, Purig Warriors continued their excellent form, registering their second win of the season by defeating Zanskar Chadar Tamers 4-2. The match saw an exciting start with Purig Warriors taking the lead early. Kanchuk Thapa’s brilliant wrist shot in the 6th minute set the tone, and Nadeem Sarwar doubled the advantage just four minutes later. Thapa struck again before the first period ended, giving Purig Warriors a commanding 3-0 lead.

In the second period, Zanskar Tamers came back with a fight, as Stanzin Lakpa scored in the 32nd minute to reduce the gap to 3-1. Still, the Tamers could not break down the Purig defense. The Warriors sealed the win in the final period with Nawaz Ali scoring another goal in the 44th minute. The Tamers responded with a goal by Stanzin Wangbo in the 45th minute which was not enough to win that game; Purig Warriors ensured that they won by 4-2, thereby becoming the team to look out for this season.

It was one of the matchups everyone was waiting for, United Nubra getting matched up with Shikatan Royals. Both teams were looking for the first victory of the season and the match lived up to the expectations. Both teams went slow in the first period, which ended with a 0-0 score. In the second period, Tamim Rashid of United Nubra opened the score by delivering a thunderous wrist shot in the 22nd minute. His teammates took the lead by 1-0. Shikatan Royals responded quickly.

Altaf Hussain’s equalizer in the 25th minute set the stage for a thrilling finish. Royals captain Shabir Shah gave his team a 2-1 lead in the 34th minute. But United Nubra wasn’t ready to back down. In the final period, Murtaza Ali’s brilliant snapshot in the 43rd minute brought the score level at 2-2. Despite numerous opportunities on both sides of the field, as well as a string of fouls resulting in penalty shots, the game ended with an exciting 2-2 draw.

Kang Sings, Defending Champions, Tie with Humas Warriors 2-2

The final match of the day saw defending champions Kang Sings clash with Hums Warriors in another nail-biting 2-2 draw. The match began with fast action, and Kang Sings’ Tsering Angchuk put his team ahead with a brilliant wrist shot in the 5th minute. However, the Warriors responded quickly, and Isa Mohammed equalized in the 10th minute.

The second period was characterized by a tighter defense for both sides, which kept the score without a single point in that session.

In the last 20 minutes, both teams increased the pace, but Hums Warriors’ captain, Waseem Bilal, made it 2-1 to his team at 46′. Kang Sings didn’t want to lose and, with a few minutes remaining before the end of the period, Stanzin Lotos brought it to a draw at 2-2. Despite the last-gasp efforts of both teams, the game was a 2-2 draw, sharing one point with each team.

Day 5 of the Ice Hockey League Season 2 proved to be a show of great skills, determination, and thrilling finishes for the fans.

As Tsewang Chuskit struck five goals, securing Changla Lamos’ place in the semi-finals, and Purig Warriors continued to be on the winning streak, the tournament has more high-stakes drama lined up as it continues. United Nubra and Shikatan Royals gave their fans a real edge-of-the-seat 2-2 draw while defending champions Kang Sings were forced to a 2-2 tie by Hums Warriors in this season’s league, showcasing how competitive it was going to be.
