Idrissa Gueye with a stunning goal inspires PSG to a routine win.

Idrissa Gueye opened the scoring in the 14th minute of the game and Draxler added a late second to give the hosts a 2-0 victory over Montpellier at home. PSG maintains their 100% record in the league with the 8th consecutive win this season.

Messi was once again left out of the squad as he suffers a minor knock on his knee. The Argentine now is in a race against time to get fit to face Manchester City on Wednesday.

In the 14th minute with excellent quick feet, Idrissa Gueye evaded a defender and shot into the roof of the net. Meanwhile, Julian Draxler, a second-half substitute helped PSG to a two-goal cushion seat. His powerful low drive to the near post was too much to handle for goalkeeper Omlin to keep out.

Mbappe and Neymar were kept quiet all night by the Montpellier defense. Even the ever mercurial Angel Di Maria was not able to contribute to PSG’s cause.

Although the score looks comfortable, the match was far from comfortable for PSG. PSG has issues in the forward line even when boasting the likes of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe in their ranks. They find it difficult to break down the opposition’s defense and are not as free-scoring as they were expected to be at the start of this season.

A rare clean sheet was the only positive takeaway from the match for Mauricio Pochettino. Meanwhile, the Argentine manager will face his old rival in Pep Guardiola in midweek. PSG welcomes Manchester City to Paris on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Manchester City comes into the game after a strong performance against European Champions Chelsea on the weekend.

Pochettino will hope his forward line can click on the day to take the French outfit over the line against City.
