Iftikhar Ahmed, the Right Arm off-break, created history during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 2022 as no other Pakistan cricketer has ever accomplished such an accomplishment in the PSL before.
The match took place on April 8, 2022, when Peshawar Zalmi played Hyderabad Kingsmen at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Iftikhar Ahmed changed the course of this match when he bowled only two overs in the first six overs of the Powerplay stage by claiming four wickets which left the Hyderabad Kingsmen batting order in disarray with a score of 34 runs for 4 wickets.
Iftikhar Claims 4 Wickets in the Powerplay
The star player started his amazing stint from the third over when he sent back Maaz Sadaqat. Later, in the fifth over, he managed to dismiss big names like Saim Ayub, Usman Khan, and Sharjeel Khan.
In four successive overs, he produced outstanding bowling stats by picking up 4-21, which left everybody speechless.
Explosive Performance of Iftikhar Ahmed: Breaking a Record in PSL 2026
In the history of the Pakistan Super League, Iftikhar Ahmed becomes the second spinner who has taken four wickets in the powerplay.
Before that, no one else besides Samit Patel has managed to achieve the target in PSL history; in the match between the Lahore Qalandars and the Quetta Gladiators played in 2020 at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
In fact, throughout the entire history of T20 cricket globally, only eight spinners have ever managed to achieve this feat. Even in the Indian Premier League, this has occurred only once.
To date, no spinner has succeeded in taking five wickets during the powerplay of a T20 innings; this means that Iftikhar now shares the joint world record alongside eight other players. Ravichandran Ashwin was the first Indian player to achieve this feat in international cricket.
