Iga Swiatek loses in Rome Open 2025, will be out of top 3 in WTA rankings
Iga Swiatek suffered a crushing defeat at the ongoing Rome Open 2025 in Italy, which has had a major impact on her WTA rankings. Swiatek will now be out of the top 3 after losing in straight sets to Danielle Collins of the US in the third round. This defeat is considered to be one of the most shocking defeats of her career.
Swiatek, who has been World No.1 until November 2024 and has been consistently in the top 3 since 2022, entered the tournament as the defending champion. She had to defend 1000 points, but she has lost more than 900 points due to being eliminated in the opening round.
No title since French Open
Iga Swiatek last won the French Open 2024 title. Since then, she has reached the quarter-finals and semi-finals in many tournaments, but has not been able to play any final. The special thing is that Swiatek, who dominated the clay court, is now seen struggling on the same surface.
One-sided match against Collins
Swiatek’s performance in the match against Danielle Collins was very weak. She was able to win only one game in the first set. The second set started well, but she failed to maintain the lead and lost in straight sets. She converted only 2 out of 10 break points, which was completely opposite to her usual game.
Drop in ranking, preparation for French Open under pressure
After this defeat, Swiatek has been pushed to fourth place in the WTA rankings. Earlier, she could not defend the title in Madrid Open as well. Now that Roland Garros is near, there will be tremendous pressure on Swiatek to improve her performance. If she fails there too, then further drop in the ranking is certain.
On the other hand, Aryna Sabalenka remains at the top of the WTA rankings with 10533 points. The battle for World No.2 continues between Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, where there is only a difference of 25 points between the two.
WTA Top 10 Rankings – After Rome Open 2025
- Aryna Sabalenka – 10533

- Mirra Andreeva – 4835
