IND vs AUS, 1st T20, Mohali: Australia Chase 209 to Beat India by Four Wickets

The flying kangaroos recorded their highest ever run chase in T20 cricket and defeated the men in blue by 4 wickets.

Australia chased down a formidable 209 run target in 9.2 overs and defeated India by four wickets in the first T20 match in Mohali on September 20, Tuesday. The flying kangaroos recorded their highest ever run chase in T20 cricket and defeated the men in blue by 4 wickets.

Winning the toss, the Australian cricket team captain, Aaron Finch, chose to ball first. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya’s impeccable stroke play helped India score a dominating 208 run-target in the first T20 international against Australia in Mohali.

The openers of the Indian cricket team, KL Rahul and Captain Rohit Sharma, provided an explosive start to the match, but the hit man was dismissed for 11 runs from the 9 bowls that he faced from the Australian bowlers on the ground of Mohali.

After the early dismissal of the Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli made it to the crease. After witnessing King Kohli’s comeback in the Asia Cup against Afghanistan, fans were in high hopes to witness some Kohli fireworks at the ground of Mohali against the Aussies, as well. But it turned out to be a ‘flop show’ and ‘an utter disappointment. Kohli’s spell could only last for 7 deliveries before Nathan Ellis’ high-paced delivery clean bowled the run machine of India at 2 runs.

Although the ace openers of India like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma lost their wickets quite too early in the powerplay, it hardly made a difference as the masterclass batting by KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav lifted India to a daunting 208 in 20 overs. KL Rahul scored an amazing 55 off 35 balls before Pandya scored an unbeaten 71 off just 30 balls. Suryakumar Yadav scored an impressive 46 off 25 balls.

The curse of the 19th over continued for Bhuvaneshwar Kumar as he failed to get things aligned for India in the death overs in the 1st T20 international against Australia in Mohali.

Fuming in anger, a cricket fan taking a dig at Bhuvaneshwar’s performance, tweeted “#INDvsAUS Bhuvi is a show spoiler. don’t understand why, do selectors keep taking him into the Indian squad. He is not a T20 bowler and his presence is affecting the strength of the Indian cricket team and reducing the chances of India winning the T20.

Some other ardent followers of the sport opined that Arshdeep might be a better option.
