IND vs AUS 1st Test: Rohit Sharma Notifies ICC That Ravindra Jadeja Used Pain-Relieving Cream After Pictures Become Popular

Day 1 of the first Test between India and Australia at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Thursday was memorable for all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (February 9). After Australia decided to bat first, Jadeja finished a stunning five-wicket haul to dismiss them for 177. However, Jadeja’s day was ruined when pictures of him applying something to his hand became viral on social media.

The management of Team India has now disclosed to ICC match referee Andy Pycroft that in the video recordings that went viral on social media during the first day of the Nagpur Test, Jadeja was applying pain-relieving ointment to the index finger of his bowling hand.

Jadeja could be seen using his right hand to remove something from Mohammed Siraj’s palm in the video. Then, just before starting to throw a delivery, Jadeja appeared to brush this substance onto the index finger of his left hand, which is his bowling arm. Despite having the ball in his hands at the time, Jadeja was never seen rubbing anything on it in the video. The ICC has prohibited the use of any material, including saliva, to polish the ball.

At the time of the incident, Australia was 120/5, and Jadeja had already dismissed Steven Smith, Matt Renshaw, and Marnus Labuschagne.

On the first day, immediately following the conclusion of play, Jadeja, India captain Rohit Sharma, and the team manager were given a video clip of Jadeja’s conduct, according to the reports. Pycroft just told them of the event, and Jadeja has not been charged.

The Australian team had not raised the issue with the match official. The match referee may independently investigate such incidents depending on the circumstances without requiring a complaint to be made. Cricket rules stipulate that the bowler must obtain the umpire’s approval before applying any material to their hands in order to protect the ball’s condition.

The Indian Cricket Team was accused of wrongdoing by Tim Paine and Michael Vaughan while the Australian media perceived Jadeja as rubbing the ball with it. What is it that he’s applying to his rotating finger? Never seen this before… #INDvsAUS, tweeted Michael Vaughan, a former England captain.

Observation of a dubious moment during the first innings of the first Test match between Australia and India has sparked a discussion. #INDvAUS,” Fox Cricket tweeted.
