Jasprit Bumrah has once again shown why he’s considered one of the best bowlers in the world. He is leading the Indian cricket team in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia at Optus Stadium in Perth.
The first Test of this five-match series started with a lot of excitement at Optus Stadium, as Bumrah and the Indian bowlers aimed to dismiss Australia for less than 100 runs on Day 2, Saturday, November 23. On Day 1, there were plenty of wickets, with 17 falling in total.
After India scored 150 in their first innings, Australia struggled badly, ending Day 1 at 67 for seven in Perth. Bumrah was the standout performer, taking four wickets and destroying Australia’s top order. This was their worst start at home in recent years.
Following a strong performance on Day 1, Jasprit Bumrah struck again on Day 2, dismissing Australia’s Alex Carey for 21 runs. Bumrah bowled a brilliant delivery that bounced and moved away, tempting Carey to edge it to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for a stunning catch.
This wicket secured Bumrah’s 11th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, and he celebrated with a confident smile, raising the ball to acknowledge the cheers.
Before Bumrah, only Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took more than 50 wickets in a single WTC edition. Ashwin has crossed 50 wickets in all three WTC editions, while Jadeja reached the milestone in the current 2023-25 cycle.
