Ind vs Eng: Kohli joins the 200-matches club as a Captain
The Indian skipper is now the 8th captain to lead his team in 200 International matches (Test, ODIs and T20s). In the 3rd ODI against when the run machine came out for the toss, it was his 200th time as a captain. Virat Kohli has scored 12336 runs as a captain in 199 matches in all the three formats. Australian Ricky Ponting leads the chart with 15440 runs.
Kohli has already surpassed Sourav Ganguly(196) and is only behind Mohammad Azharuddin(221) and MS Dhoni(332) among the Indian Captains. Incidentally, Dhoni leads the list of players who led their teams in most matches across formats, followed by Ricky Ponting (324), Stephen Fleming (303), Graeme Smith (286), Allan Border (271), Arjuna Ranatunga (249), and Azharuddin.
In the last match Kohli managed to set another record as he became the only 2nd person in the world to score 10000 runs batting at no.3. Ricky Ponting has has 12662 runs batting at no.3 . A ton for Kohli would have also meant he would have been the captain with most hundreds across formats, surpassing Ponting. Ponting and Kohli currently are joint-most with 41.
