India further consolidated their supremacy in this IND vs NZ T20I series by defeating New Zealand comprehensively in a seven-wicket performance to go 2-0 ahead in this highly consequential series.

Chasing a massive 209-run target, India has once again shown their potential as pre-tournament favourites ahead of the eagerly awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by defeating New Zealand in a game where they ended on a stunning 28/0 in chase of 209 despite needing only 3/0 in 28/0 to level a leg bye in 28/0.

Ishan Kishan’s Explosive Powerplay Sets the Tone

Despite losing Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma inside seven balls, the chase never was never lost on due to Ishan Kishan‘s counterattack. Filling in for Tilak Varma, the left-hander announced his presence immediately as he gave the New Zealand bowling a thorough pasting in the powerplay.

Kishan tore into Zakary Foulkes, smashed Mitchell Santner for three consecutive boundaries and totally toyed with Matt Henry to bring up a sensational 21-ball half-century. That puts him in illustrious company, only the fifth Indian batter to score 50-plus runs inside the first six overs in a T20I.

Suryakumar Yadav Joins the Party, New Zealand Struggle

Any thoughts of a slow-down being enforced upon the NZ bowlers in the power-play were dismissed soon enough as Kishan was hitting sixes off Ish Sodhi and Santner before getting into a proper batting mood against Foulkes, who was battered for 25 runs in an over by the Indian skipper before being left with a poor record of 0/49 in just two overs.

Though Kishan’s assault was ended at 76, Suryakumar carried the momentum for his innings as he reached fifty in T20Is for the first time in over a year. Help came in the form of Shivam Dube, and with the required rate falling below and into the single digits in the 12th over, New Zealand’s win was all but certain in the IND vs NZ contest.

India Seal Victory With Authority

Suryakumar was unbeaten on 82, helping his team to a confident chase to end on 209/3, reaching the target in just 15.2 overs. The confident chase reflected the wide gap that was obvious between the two teams on the night.

New Zealand’s Innings: Promising Start, Inconsistent Finish

Earlier, the Kiwis began well, with Devon Conway and Tim Seifert making brisk progress against Arshdeep Singh, reaching 43/0 off the first three overs. But India quickly replied well through the combination of Harshit Rana and Varun Chakaravarthy, who kept the visitors down to 21 runs off the next three overs.

Ravindra and Santner Push New Zealand Past 200

A counter-attack led by Rachin Ravindra and Glenn Phillips revived the New Zealand innings; however, India continued to pick up the required wickets. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed both Phillips and the well-set Ravindra, while Shivam Dube dispatched the in-form Mitchell Daryl.

Mitchell Santner played a pivotal cameo in death situations, assisted by Zakary Foulkes, enabling New Zealand to reach 208/6 a score which clearly proved to be low in comparison to India’s firepower in the IND vs NZ battle.
