IND vs WI – BCCI Announces India’s Squad for West Indies Tests: The BCCI has finally revealed India’s squad for the upcoming two-match home IND vs WI Test series. Fans had been eagerly waiting for this announcement, and now the picture is clear.
IND vs WI: Shubman Gill to Lead, Ravindra Jadeja Named Vice-Captain
Shubman Gill, who guided India to a 2-2 draw in his first series as captain, will continue to lead the team. With Rishabh Pant ruled out, legendary all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja steps in as vice-captain. Pant’s absence also opens the door for Dhruv Jurel, who is expected to take up the wicketkeeping duties. Uncapped keeper N Jagadeesan, called up during the Oval Test earlier this year, is also included in the squad.
Few Surprises in Selection
There aren’t too many surprises this time. Karun Nair, who made a comeback in England after eight years but managed only 205 runs at an average of 25.62, has been left out.
Abhimanyu Eswaran, still waiting for his first Test cap, misses out as well. Sarfaraz Khan, who was part of the squad against New Zealand at home but didn’t feature in Australia or England, hasn’t been recalled either. His absence may be linked to a quadriceps injury that kept him out of the Duleep Trophy.
Devdutt Padikkal and Nitish Reddy Return
The selectors have backed B Sai Sudharsan and rewarded Devdutt Padikkal after his brilliant 150 against Australia A. One of them, most likely Sudharsan, is expected to take the No.3 spot. The No.5 position remains open, with several contenders, including Nitish Kumar Reddy. Back from injury, Nitish brings a batting-first approach but can also chip in with the ball when needed.
Strong Spin and Pace Options
India’s spin department looks stacked, featuring Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, all of whom add depth with the bat. Kuldeep Yadav is also in the mix and could be brought in depending on the conditions.
The pace attack will be led by Jasprit Bumrah, supported by Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Nitish Kumar Reddy as a seam-bowling option. Akash Deep, who has been recovering from an injury since The Oval Test, has not been included. Instead, he will turn out for Rest of India in the Irani Cup against Vidarbha.
A New-Look India Squad
The upcoming IND vs WI Test series will mark a big shift for Indian cricket. For the first time since the Nagpur Test against New Zealand back in November 2010, India will play a home Test without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, or R Ashwin.
