Indian opener KL Rahul is enjoying a fantastic run with the bat in the ongoing first Test against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On Day 2, Friday (October 3), the right-hander moved past England’s Ben Duckett to claim the second spot on the list of most Test runs scored in 2025.

KL Rahul had already set the tone on Day 1 by remaining unbeaten on 53. Alongside skipper Shubman Gill, he stitched together a solid 98-run stand for the third wicket, with Gill making 50 off 100 balls. The next morning, Rahul carried on from where he left off and brought up his 11th Test century. He reached the milestone unbeaten on 100 from 192 deliveries before the lunch break, underlining his composure and class.

KL Rahul Moves Past Duckett with Third Century of the Year

This century was Rahul’s third in 2025. He had earlier smashed two hundreds during the series against England. With his latest knock, the opener has now piled up 649 runs this year at an impressive average of 54.08, which includes three centuries and two half-centuries.

In the year’s run-scoring charts, Shubman Gill leads the pack with 837 runs from seven matches. Rahul follows closely with 649, while Zimbabwe’s Sean Williams sits right behind him on 648 runs from eight games. Ben Duckett has 602, and India’s Rishabh Pant, despite playing only five matches, has scored 580.

Most Test Runs in 2025

  • Shubman Gill (India) – 837 runs in 7 matches

  • KL Rahul (India) – 649 runs in 7 matches

  • Sean Williams (Zimbabwe) – 648 runs in 8 matches

  • Ben Duckett (England) – 602 runs in 6 matches

  • Rishabh Pant (India) – 580 runs in 5 matches

KL Rahul’s Heroics on the England Tour

Rahul has been in great form throughout 2025. His standout knock came in Leeds, where he scored 137 in the second innings, though India fell short of victory. He also struck a century at Lord’s, but once again India couldn’t get over the line. In Manchester, however, his fighting 90 proved crucial in helping India secure a draw in the tightly contested five-match series.

Before the West Indies series, Rahul also showed signs of his brilliant touch in the unofficial games. He smashed an unbeaten 176 for India A against Australia A in Lucknow, guiding his team to a five-wicket win.

West Indies Crumble on Day 1

Day 1 belonged firmly to India’s bowlers. The West Indies, who chose to bat first, were bundled out for just 162 in 44.1 overs. Justin Greaves (32), Shai Hope (26), and Roston Chase (24) were the only batters to cross 20. For India, Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 40, while Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 42) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 25) chipped in as well.

India’s reply began steadily as Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal put on 68 for the first wicket in 18.2 overs. Jaiswal fell for 36 and Sai Sudharsan soon followed for 7, leaving India at 90 for 2. But Rahul (53*) and Gill (18*) kept things calm and steady, taking India to 121 for 2 at stumps.

For the visitors, Roston Chase and Jayden Seales managed a wicket each. Importantly, this match also marks India’s first outing in the new ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. Shubman Gill’s team entered the series high on confidence after a 2-2 draw against England in the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy earlier this year.
