IND vs WI Test match shocking stats

India’s Record Win: Third-Largest Over West Indies

India’s innings and 140-run victory margin in Ahmedabad is their third-largest over the West Indies. Only in 2023, when India defeated WI by an innings and 141 runs, and in 2018, when they beat Rajkot by an innings and 272 runs, were the margins wider.

India’s comprehensive record against the West Indies in recent Test matches at home is also noteworthy. India has won four innings matches and a 10-wicket victory in Hyderabad in 2018 against the West Indies in their last five Tests in India.

Ravindra Jadeja’s All-Round Masterclass

Ravindra Jadeja displayed a phenomenal all-round display in this match. He hit an unbeaten 104 in India’s second innings and supported it with a four-wicket haul for 54 runs in the second innings of the West Indies.

Jadeja’s fine all-round work rewarded him with his 11th Player-of-the-Match award in Test cricket, equaling Rahul Dravid’s second-most Player-of-the-Match award by an Indian player in Tests. Only Sachin Tendulkar (14) holds more.

Jadeja’s performance also made him join cricket greats Garfield Sobers and R Ashwin in the rare achievement of scoring a century and taking a four-wicket haul in the same Test four times. Only Ian Botham ranks higher than him, with five instances.

KL Rahul’s Landmark Hundred as an Opener

During IND vs WI Test, KL Rahul achieved his 10th century as an opener ahead of ex-openers Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, each of whom has nine centuries. Rahul now trails only M Vijay, Virender Sehwag, and Sunil Gavaskar in the list of openers to have most Test centuries for India.

It was Rahul’s second home Test century, with the earlier one being 199 against England in Chennai in 2016. This century after a wait of 3212 days is the longest gap between two home Test centuries by an Indian batsman. The earlier record was set by Mohinder Amarnath, who waited 2885 days from 1979 to 1986.

Jasprit Bumrah Sets Record for Fastest 50 Test Wickets in India

In another impressive feat in the IND vs WI match, Jasprit Bumrah became the fastest to reach 50 Test wickets in India taking just 1746 balls. Bumrah bettered the records of Mohammed Shami (2267 balls) and Harbhajan Singh (2272 balls) to achieve the feat more than 500 balls quicker than the duo.

Bumrah also has the top bowling strike rate (35.8) and bowling average (17.32) among the 30 bowlers with 50 Test wickets in India. His scintillating performance further reinforces his status as a global fast bowler of the highest standard.

West Indies Batting Struggles: A New Low

West Indies had a dismal time with the bat during the Ahmedabad Test, which lasted merely 89.2 overs in all during both their innings. They batted 44.1 overs for the first innings and 45.1 overs for the second. This is their lowest number of overs batted in a Test match against India wherein they have been bowled out twice.

This display is one of a concerning trend for the West Indies. They have batted 12 times themselves in Test matches in 2023 alone, not making it through 50 overs on eight occasions.

Their batting average for the year is as low as 15.60, the worst of the 12 Full Member countries. Actually, only New Zealand (12.65) back in 1958 had a poorer batting average for teams to appear in at least five Tests in a calendar year.

West Indies Low Score: 308 Runs in Two Innings

West Indies were able to score a total of only 308 runs in both innings, their second-lowest in a Test loss against India. The show by the team reflected how their batting problems continue as they have been bowled out for fewer than 300 runs eight times this year, the highest for any Test team in a calendar year.
