The squad features several promising young players, including Eden Carson, Izzy Gaze, and Georgia Plimmer. Carson made a notable impact in the recent Women’s T20 World Cup with her consistent off-spin bowling. Plimmer provided crucial starts at the top of the order, helping the team gain momentum during the powerplay. Wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze contributed valuable runs from the lower order, with her key performance in the semi-final being instrumental in securing a thrilling victory.

Amelia Kerr, who was arguably the standout player of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, is also included in the squad. She was named Player of the Match in the final and took home the Player of the Tournament award. Kerr finished as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, claiming 15 wickets in just six matches at an impressive average of 7.33 and an economy rate of 4.85. She also scored 135 runs, making her the top scorer in the final.

Polly Inglis has been named as the second wicketkeeper, marking her first call-up to the international squad.

Head coach Ben Sawyer said the selection of Inglis was a nod to the future. “We’re really excited to introduce Polly for her first tour,” said Sawyer in a statement.

“She put her hand up in last season’s Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and throughout the New Zealand A series against England, so it’s a great next step for her.

Sawyer also highlighted the importance of the India series for his side. “Touring India is one of the great experiences in world cricket,” he said.

“It’s such a special place to come and I know everyone is looking forward to the challenge ahead. Alongside trying to win the series, the tour will serve as important preparation for next year’s ODI World Cup in India.”

The White Ferns will head to India for a three-match ODI series starting on October 24, with matches scheduled for October 24, 27, and 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This series comes just days after New Zealand’s historic victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Dubai, where they defeated South Africa by 32 runs to claim the nation’s first-ever cricket World Cup title, for both men and women.

As both teams prepare for the next ICC tournament, the series is crucial, especially with the ODI World Cup set to take place in India in 2025.
