As the historic 77th Independence Day nears, we take a look at how some of the great history-making sportspersons like Neeraj Chopra, Abhinav Bindra, Sharath Kamal and Bhavani Devi have wished on previous Independence Days.

Neeraj Chopra since his victory in the Javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics has been a fan-favourite. He is just the second Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics. Prior to his gold medal in Tokyo Olympics, he won a gold medal at the 2018 Australian Commonwealth Games. Alongside his success in the Olympics and CWG, he has a gold medal in South Asian Games (2016), World U20 Championships (2016), Asian Championships (2017) and Asian Games (2018). 

Neeraj Chopra wishes on previous Independence days

On 15th August 2022, Neeraj Chopra wished Independence Day by captioning the pic in Hindi.

On 15th August 2021, like many other sportspersons, Neeraj was present at the Red Fort for celebrations. He posted a pic of him with the Indian flag from the day he won the Olympics gold medal. He said, “It was an honour to attend the Independence Day celebrations at the historic Red Fort today.”

In 2019, he wished Independence Day by posting a pic of him saluting.

Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra’s name will be written in the history books of Indian sports. Bindra was the first sportsperson to win an individual Olympic Gold Medal. He won the gold medal in the 10 m air rifle shooting. He has also won the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna (India’s highest sports award)

Abhinav Bindra wished Independence Day on the 15th of August 2021 by posting a picture of leading the Indian contingent at the Olympics.

Sharath Kamal is one of the most decorated as well as the most underrated Indian athlete. He has won 13 medals in the Commonwealth Games. He 7 gold medals to his name in the Commonwealth Games along with 3 silver and 3 bronze medals. Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022 was his fifth CWG and his most successful one. He won three gold medals in Men’s Singles, Mixed Doubles and Team Event alongside a silver medal won in Men’s Doubles.

Sharath Kamal wishes on previous Independence days

On 15th August 2022, Sharath Kamal posted a photo while standing on the podium looking at the Indian flag being hoisted. He captioned the pic by saying, “May our #Tiranga keep flying high.” 

On 15th August 2021, Sharath posted a photo in front of the Red Fort.

Bhavani Devi

Bhavani Devi is an Indian fencer who has found a lot of success in recent years. She also has a record for being the first Indian to win a medal in Asian Championships. During her journey in the Asian Championships, she defeated the World Champion, Misaki Emura. After her victory over Misaki, she even said, “Beating Misaki was huge because she is a very good and consistent fencer.”

Bhavani Devi wishes on previous Independence days

On 15th August 2022, Bhavani Devi posted a picture of herself holding the Indian flag with the hashtag ‘Jai Hind’.

On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, Bhavani posted a picture of herself in front of the historic monument, Red Fort.

On 15th August 2021, Bhavani took to Twitter and posted a picture of herself holding the national flag in a picture filled with colours. The caption read “Happy Independence Day.”
