The Commonwealth Youth Games 2023: List of Indian Medalists and Winners
A group of 24 Indian athletes, including runner Bapi Hansda and swimmer Vedaant Madhavan, are currently competing at the Commonwealth Youth Games 2023. This event is taking place from August 5 to 11 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
More than 1,000 athletes from 71 countries within the Commonwealth are participating in the seventh edition of the Commonwealth Youth Games.
Medals are up for grabs in seven different sports: athletics, beach volleyball, cycling, netball fast 5, rugby sevens, swimming, and triathlon. However, India is only participating in cycling, triathlon, swimming, and athletics.
The Indian team consists of eight athletes in athletics, six in both cycling and swimming and four in triathlon. Each team has an equal representation of men and women.
Here’s the breakdown of the Indian team for the Commonwealth Youth Games 2023:
Athletics: Abhay Singh (men’s 200m), Navpreet Singh (men’s 400m), Bapi Hansda (men’s 400m hurdles), Arjun (men’s javelin throw), Asha Kiran Barla (women’s 800m), Shireen Ahluwalia (relay), Anupriya Sasi (women’s shot put)
Swimming: Hashika Ramachandra (women’s), Palak Joshi (women’s), Ridhima Veerendrakumar (women’s), Shoan Ganguly (men’s), Utkarsh Patil (men’s), Vedaant Madhavan (men’s)
Cycling: Gargi Bishnoi (women’s road and track), Priyamvadha Dhanyadha (women’s road and track), Aashirwad Saxena (men’s road and track), Aakshar Tyagi (men’s road and track), Srimathi Jesudasan (women’s track), Jitendra Vedant Jadhav (men’s track)
Triathlon: Yajat Aiyappa Kandanda Praveen (men’s), Telheiba Soram (men’s), Dolly Devidas Patil (women’s), Keerthi Sakthivel (women’s)
This multi-sport event, exclusively for athletes under 18 years old, began in 2000 and is returning after a six-year hiatus.
As of Commonwealth Youth Games 2023, India holds the fourth-most successful position in the event’s history with a total of 125 medals: 51 gold, 38 silver, and 36 bronze. The top three spots are held by Australia, England, and South Africa.
Notably, some of India’s renowned sports stars, such as the double Olympic medalist PV Sindhu, have previously participated in the Commonwealth Youth Games.
