The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has taken a significant step in the preparation of six Greco-Roman wrestlers for the upcoming Asian Games. These wrestlers, who are bound for the Asian Games, are set to embark on a specialized training camp in Romania. Accompanied by three support staff members, the wrestlers will undergo a rigorous 15-day training regimen to fine-tune their skills and fitness levels before the mega event in Hangzhou, China, scheduled for September-October.
The chosen participants for this exclusive training experience are Gyanendar (60kg), Neeraj (67kg), Vikas (77kg), Sunil Kumar (87kg), Narinder Cheema (97kg), and Naveen (130kg). Departing for Romania, this initiative has been made possible through the Ministry’s ‘Assistance to NSF Scheme’, which has provided the necessary clearance and support.
During their stay in Romania, the wrestling team will also actively engage in the Ion Cornianu and Ladislau Simon events scheduled from August 18 to 20. This participation will provide them with valuable exposure and an opportunity to put their enhanced skills to the test.
Spanning over 15 days, the international training camp will encompass all essential expenses, including training costs, accommodation, airfare, visa charges, and an Out of Pocket Allowance (OPA) for the wrestlers. The Ministry ensures that the team is fully equipped and supported for their training journey, in preparation for the much-awaited Hangzhou Asian Games.
As the wrestlers gear up for this unique training experience in Romania, their dedication and hard work reflect the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent and achieving excellence on the international stage. Stay tuned for more updates on their progress and performance as they inch closer to the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
