India’s campaign at the Sudirman Cup 2025 came to an end after a disappointing run by the national badminton team. The Indian team failed to register a single win in the group stage, bowing out after consecutive 1-4 defeats to Denmark and Indonesia in Xiamen, China.
India needed a victory against Indonesia to stay in the Sudirman Cup 2025 for the quarterfinals after a heavy loss to Denmark, however, India lost again, marking the end of their campaign.
India’s campaign was marked by a series of significant defeats, particularly among its star singles players, resulting in an early group-stage exit.
India’s Disappointing Run At The Sudirman Cup 2025
PV Sindhu, a double-time Olympic medallist and former world champion, suffered straight-game defeats in both group ties. She lost against Denmark’s Line Kjaersfeldt. In a must-win tie game against Indonesia, she was outplayed by World Number 11, Patrick Kusuma Wardani.
Another notable player, HS Prannoy, lost to Denmark’s world number 3 in the opening tie. In the crucial encounter against Indonesia, he started strong by winning the first game, but ultimately lost in the later stages.
The women’s doubles pair of Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra were beaten by Indonesia’s Lanny Tria and Siti Fadia, which handed Indonesia an unmissable lead in the tie.
India’s experienced men’s doubles team could not participate in the Sudirman Cup 2025, and the inexperienced duo lost to Denmark’s world number 1 pair in just 21 minutes.
The only bright spot was the mixed doubles pairing of Dheuv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto. However, this victory was not enough for India to extend their campaign in the tournament.

India has never won the Sudirman Cup 2025, and their best performances have only been reaching the quarterfinals in 2011 and 2017. Despite significant progress in world badminton, the Sudirman Cup remains untouched for India.
