As England-W posted a very big total of 177 for 7 in their 20 overs. It was thanks to Nat Sciver and Amy Jones who played very aggressively to push England to put a massive total on board. Shikha Pandey took 3-22 in her fours spell. India -w didn’t have a good start to their innings as they lost the wicket of Shafali Verma in the opening over itself.
India-W never looked in contention for the chase. At 8.4 overs they found themselves 54-3. Then rain played its part as play couldn’t resume and England was decided as winners using the D/L method.
England -W won the toss in the second T20 and opted to field first. Both teams go unchanged in the second T20. India- W had a very good powerplay by 49 runs without losing any wicket. Shafali Verma played an anchor role in this big opening partnership. The opening pair managed to put 70 runs on board. But England-W strikes back by dismissing both openers in quick successions. The captain of the Indian-W team Harmanpreet Kaur played well for her 31 runs.
England-W bowled well in the death overs of the innings by restricting India-W to a modest total of 148 runs. India-W would be very much disappointed the way they ended their innings, after a very strong start. England had a shocking start to their chase as they were 2 wickets within the first 3 overs of the powerplay. The powerplay was even to both as England-w managed to score 52 runs and India-W picked up two wickets.
But there was a good partnership building between Tammy Beaumont and captain Heather Knight. The partnership put England-W very well on course to achieve the target. The pair went on to put 75 runs on the board that too in a good pace. Just when India-W desperately needed a wicket, Deepti Sharma dismisses England-W opener Tommy Beaumont. In the very next ball, Heather Knight found herself run-out in a very strange manner.
The decision of Harleen Doel to bowl the 15th over went wrong over concede 10 runs. Sharma bowled a good over by giving just 6 runs, and there was a run out in the same over. As this made things even tough England-W. Poonam bowled the match turning 17 over by just 3 runs and picking the crucial wicket. India-W not only restricted the runs but also took wickets in quick successions. In the end, England-W fell short by 8 runs to India-W total.
