Indian Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams Aim for FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2024 Victory
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) recently revealed the groups and match schedule for the upcoming FIH Women’s Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024. Set to take place from January 24 to 31, 2024, in Muscat, Oman, this tournament will see 16 men’s and women’s teams from across the globe competing to become the inaugural Hockey5s World Champions.
Women’s Competition:
In the women’s competition, India has been placed in Pool C, alongside the United States, Poland, and Namibia. This promises exciting matchups as India aims to continue its winning streak.
Other Pools:
- Hosts Oman will compete in Pool A against Malaysia, Fiji, and the Netherlands.
- Australia, South Africa, Ukraine, and Zambia make up Pool B.
- New Zealand, Uruguay, Thailand, and Paraguay form Pool D.
Men’s Competition:
In the men’s competition, India finds itself in Pool B, along with Egypt, Switzerland, and Jamaica. With strong contenders in their group, India is gearing up for intense battles.
Other Pools:
- Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, and Nigeria make up Pool A.
- Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad & Tobago, and Kenya are in Pool C.
- Hosts Oman will face Malaysia, United States, and Fiji in Pool D.
Both the Indian men’s and women’s hockey teams earned their spots in the FIH Hockey5s World Cup after securing victory in the inaugural Hockey5s Asia Cup 2023, where they defeated Thailand and Pakistan in the finals.
Team Spirit and Confidence:
Speaking about the competition ahead, Navjot Kaur, the women’s team skipper, expressed excitement and confidence. She said, “It’s an exciting Pool, and I am looking forward to competing with some very strong teams. Having won the inaugural FIH Women’s Hockey5s Asia Cup 2023, the confidence among the players is high, and they are all ready to play the FIH Women’s Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 and bring glory to the country.”
Jyoti, Navjot’s deputy during the Hockey5s Asia Cup 2023, emphasized the learning experience gained from competing against quality teams. She said, “We will keep working hard in our training and give everything when we are out there on the field. We will not be taking anything for granted. We played some good hockey in the FIH Women’s Hockey5s Asia Cup, and we hope to continue the same form in the FIH Women’s Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024.”
