Royal Challengers Bangalore, are making all their lives count this season, as the team, this season has been magnificent, to say the least, in almost every department. The side led my Indian Skipper RCB, has probably understood the formula of tasting success and this season comes under an exception in their 14 years-long sagas in IPL.
There are multiple reasons why this team, outta nowhere has outperformed even their expectations as well. Here are the 3 reasons why Kohli’s Men have pulled off an incredible turnaround in this season of VIVO IPL 2021.
1. Consistency in Batting
RCB over the years has seen inconsistent batting as one of the reasons why they kept on losing games and having terrible performance in their campaigns. Two stalwarts of their batting lineups, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers have always been consistent, but other batsmen in their line-up didn’t have the itch to succeed. But this seasons’ changes gradually began from last season.
The addition of Glenn Maxwell, a risky proposition has surprised all the pundits of the game and has been constant with his display alongside AB de Villiers. Most importantly, Devdutt Padikkal, RCB’s find has completely outshone all. He scored an outstanding hundred in the game against Rajasthan Royals, which RCB won by 10 wickets. This happened to be one of their constant problems and it looks they’ve worked.
2. Economical Bowling in death overs
RCB was known to leak runs, leg, off, straight and back, in the last 4-5 overs. They used to leak runs at the economy of 10,11, or 12 RPO. This used to be their regular routine stuff and TBH, they’ve found out reasons, assessed it, and tweaked it.
The addition of Harshal Patel, and how effectively he’s been used is one thing to look forward to. He has been the leading wicket-taker in IPL thus far and has been performing consistently well. His yorkers, planning, and other various aspects are incredibly planned out. Also, this Mohammed Siraj is roaring with confidence. Chahal, Washington Sundar, etc are bang on too. This has turned out to edge the economy in death overs to just 7 or 8 RPO in the last 5 overs.
3. Virat Kohli opening from the front
Virat Kohli has shown effectiveness in opening and leading RCB batting from the front. This gives confidence to all the players in the team when the captain leads from the front, thrashes opponents from the beginning.
Him coming out as an opener gives adequate opportunity to other batsmen to play their game at their natural flair and all. Note, this isn’t his usual position but this alternative genuinely creates a better solution for the batting and troubleshoots in a better way altogether.
