Chris Morris produced a timely 36-run unbeaten knock as Rajasthan Royals defeated Delhi Capitals by three wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Thursday. So let’s have a look at the top batting and bowling performances of this African allrounder in the history of IPL.
Best bowling performance of Chris Morris (4-0-23-4 vs KKR in 2015 ):
Going back to 2015 for Morris’ best bowling performance in the IPL, which came for Rajasthan Royals against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Royals’ first innings were lit up by a sparkling century from Shane Watson, which propelled them to 199/6 in 20 overs. In reply, KKR threatened to make a fist of it but were kept in check by the efforts of Morris and his teammates. The South African sent back Gautam Gambhir cheaply before then taking care of the dangerous Andre Russell, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shakib Al Hasan, wickets that knocked the stuffing out of the KKR chase.
Best batting performance of Chris Morris (82* in 32 deliveries vs Delhi Capitals in 2016):
In 2016, former Delhi Capitals all-rounder Chris Morris had scored his maiden T20 half-century which to date remains his career-best score in the format.
Coming in to bat at No. 6 in the 11th over, Morris had a daunting task ahead of him as Capitals (then Daredevils) required 116 runs from 56 balls to win the match.
Having played only two deliveries, Morris fancied his chances against Gujarat all-rounder James Faulkner as he hit him for a couple of sixes in the 13th over.
Continuing his assault, the right-hand batsman made things difficult for the opposition bowlers as he hit Dwayne Bravo and Pravin Tambe for three sixes in the next over.
Despite Delhi already losing their top batsmen, Morris made sure that he dominated the 87-run partnership alongside his South African teammate in Duminy (48).
When Delhi needed 18 runs in two overs, Praveen Kumar and Bravo stood tall on their potential to register an intriguing 1-run victory. Morris’ entertaining innings saw him scoring 82* (32) with the help of four fours and eight sixes.
