IPL 2021: Five highest team total in the history of Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been largely unforgiving for the bowlers, right from the very first game in which Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum smashed an unbeaten 158, which is still the second-highest individual score in the tournament.
Massive totals have been put up regularly, with the 200-run mark breached with increasing ease every year.
In this article, we take a look at the 5 highest team totals in the history of the IPL.

For this one, we have to go way back to the first edition of the IPL. After the opening night in Bangalore, where Brendon McCullum smashed 158 not out, the action shifted to Mohali where Chennai Super Kings took on Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings).
In all true sense, there weren’t too many bad deliveries but it was batting of the highest class which took CSK’s total to 240 for 5. This score also held the record for the highest score for two years, before CSK themselves broke it.

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (245/6) vs Punjab Kings, IPL 2018:

The two-time IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), have been a part of some of the most thrilling matches in IPL. Amongst them is the enthralling match played in 2018 between KKR and the Punjab Kings, formerly known as the Kings XI Punjab. The match was played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium where Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. The short boundaries, a flat pitch, and the power hitters in the game are three things that make for a high-scoring match.
This match witnessed all three ingredients. Consequently, an aggregate of 459 runs was scored in this match. Quickfire 50s from Sunil Narine and Dinesh Karthik along with a few cameos propelled KKR to 245, which, as it turns out is the fourth-highest score in IPL by a team

3. Chennai Super Kings (246 for 5) vs Rajasthan Royals, 2010:

Murali Vijay tore apart the Rajasthan Royals bowling attack while scoring 127 off 56 balls to help Chennai Super Kings post 246/5 at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on April 3, 2010. At that time, CSK’s score was the highest team total in IPL, bettering their own 240/5 against Kings XI Punjab in 2008. Vijay’s 127 was the second-highest individual score in IPL after Kolkata Knight Riders’ Brendon McCullum’s 157 and he became only the third Indian to score an IPL century after Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan.

2. Royal Challengers Bangalore: 248/3 vs Gujarat Lions (2016):

RCB also holds the record for the highest team total in the history of the IPL, one that they claimed when they demolished Pune Warriors India (PWI) in the 2013 season.
After PWI captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to bowl, Chris Gayle, registered the highest individual score in the history of the IPL. The marauding West Indian scored an unbeaten 175 off just 66 balls, which was a knock that featured 13 fours and 17 hits over the short boundaries at the Chinnaswamy.
