Punjab Kings batsman KL Rahul on Wednesday added yet another feather to his cap as he completed 5000 runs in T20 cricket during the ongoing Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Chennai.
Rahul has an aggregate of 5003 runs in 143 T20 innings at a batting average of 41.69 and strike rate of 137.63 including 4 hundred and 41 fifties. Remarkably, his batting average is the third-highest in the history of T20 cricket after Babar Azam (45.32) and Virat Kohli (41.71).
Rahul is also the fastest Indian batsman to enter the 5k club, beating the long-standing record held by Virat Kohli (167) followed by Suresh Raina (173).
Overall, Rahul has scored 2808 runs in 76 innings in the IPL at a strike rate of 136.11 including two hundred and 23 fifties. His batting average of 44.57 is the highest for any batsman in the history of the IPL.
He has the seventh-highest batting average in T20I cricket and his ability to score big runs at a high strike rate makes him a sought-after batsman in the format. Only Aaron Finch and Dawid Malan have a higher scoring rate than Rahul amongst the ten highest batting average batsmen in T20I cricket.
