Kolkata Knight Riders team announces a replacement for its most expensive recruit Pat Cummins as he opts out of the remainder of the Indian Premier League 2021.
Cummins will not be participating in the remainder of the IPL due to personal reasons.
As his replacement, the Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in New Zealand pacer Tim Southee. The team made an official announcement about this on Thursday in a release.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ head coach Brendon McCullum said, “We are delighted to have Southee in our ranks. He is a proven match-winner and welcome addition to the already strong pace attack of KKR. The team’s head coach further shared that with Cummins’ unavailability KKR decided to add experience and leadership to the bowling unit which Tim Southee can perfectly provide.
Tim Southee has a great experience of 305 international games for the Kiwis with 603 wickets.
This year’s IPL season hasn’t gone quite well for the Riders. The team is one above the last team on the points table. With Tim Southee’s addition to the squad, it will be interesting to see how he adds value to the team.
KKR will face the Royal Challengers Bangalore on 20th September at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
