Since the beginning of the season, the Rajasthan Royals have not had a good game with the team performing well on both batting and bowling end.

The Rajasthan Royals have won only one of their four matches in the season and have settled themselves quite comfortably in the lower half of the points table.

It seems like one of the problems for the team’s continuing bad form is the inability of the captain to make the right decisions and also deliver for the team as an individual.

Debutant captain Sanju Samson shocked everyone in the first match against Punjab Kings, where he knocked 119 runs off of 63 balls and almost took the Royals to victory just before falling short of distance in the last ball. But even this game witnessed some poor display of captaincy where Samson was unable to take timely decisions that could restrict Punjab Kings batsmen from trashing 221 runs, the highest run total in the season so far.

Sanju Samson’s poor captaincy continued into the second match coupled with his poor performance as a batsman, although Royals managed to win the match by a few inches, the circus could have been avoided if the team took right decisions in terms of bowling and fielding to restrict Delhi for a lower score. Sanju Samson on the batting end scored only 4 runs in a crucial powerplay where he should have been the example for the rest of the team.

In the third match against CSK where Chennai was already on the winning wave, Samson should have estimated the opponent teams ability to bat well and form strategies to restrict them from hitting big during the powerplay, but Sanju Samson failed yet again, as Rajasthan Royals bowlers seemed to have no idea whatsoever on how to stop Chennai batsmen from smashing them mercilessly. Yet again, CSK went on to trash RR for 188 runs. On the batting end, Samson failed yet again to provide for his team, as he was sent back to the pavilion for just 1 run.

In today’s match against the RCB who have been performing consistently from the beginning, Sanju Samson had yet another chance to review his strategies and form a much better game plan to play against RCB, but Sanju Samson failed again as he was dismissed for just 21 runs when he was supposed to score big for the team as they were under pressure because of losing their openers.

On the bowling end, Samson seemed to have no strategy at all, as for a team like RCB with so much batting power, strategy is a must, but Rajasthan seemed to have none, as Devdutt Padikkal and Kohli stood from the start to the end on the crease to finish the match for RCB. Rajasthan’s bowlers seemed clueless on what to do as Devdutt Padikkal went on a hitting spree against them, even Rajasthan’s best bowlers like Unadkat, Chethan Sakariya had no luck in restricting Padikkal and Kohli from scoring big.

Sanju Samson’s is undoubtedly one of the best cricketers the country has seen and IPL has seen, but his role as the captain of a team needs to be fulfilled now, as a young captain in the best cricketing league of the world, Sanju Samson will be followed and looked upon by many young players who dream of being a captain one day. Sanju Samson needs to get his head in the captaincy game as soon as possible to rescue Rajasthan Royals from drowning in the well of losses.
