Previously the on-field umpires had to give a call while referring the decision to the third umpire. It created a lot of controversies as the third umpire needed clear evidence to overturn the on-field decision. BCCI made it clear that umpires are not allowed to give soft signals.  After approval by the Governing Council, the board has updated Appendix D – Clause 2.2.2 – of the Match Playing Conditions. The franchises have been informed that the ‘soft signal has been removed.’

Earlier in India vs England series, the questions were asked as the third umpires found it difficult to overturn the on-field decision. Suryakumar Yadav was given out as David Malan took the catch. There was a look decision-making moment and at the end, with the lack of evidence the third umpire gave it out.
