With five games completed every team has played in one game in IPL 2023. Over the years, there have been many players who have earned big bucks playing in the Indian Premier League. Here is a look at how the costliest players performed in their first games in the IPL 2023.
Sam Curran
Sam Curran became the most expensive player in IPL history. Punjab Kings bought the English all-rounder for INR 18.5 crores in the IPL 2023 auction. Sam Curran had an average outing against Kolkata Knight Riders.
Curran in the first innings scored unbeaten 26 runs off 17 balls hitting two sixes. With the ball in hand the all-rounder was taken to cleaners by the KKR batters. Curran bowled three overs where he gave away 33 runs picking up one wicket. The only positive for Curran was that his solitary wicket was of the hard hitting batter Andre Russell who was looking in good touch and had already scored 35 runs off 19 balls.
Cameron Green
Making his debut at the IPL 2023, Cameron Green was picked by the Mumbai Indians for 17.5 crores. Just like the Mumbai Indians, Green too had a forgettable time at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Green came in at number three against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The Australian all-rounder’s stay at the crease was very short as he was bowled by Reece Topley after scoring five runs off four balls. With the ball in hand Green looked all over the place as he bowled two overs which went for 30 runs. In his first over he conceded 17 runs as Faf duPlessis took charge against him scoring two boundaries and a six. He bowled what happened to be the penultimate over, in his second over of the night he managed to pick up Dinesh Karthik’s wicket but that meant Maxwell entered and scored two consecutive sixes off his last two balls.
Ben Stokes
The England test team captain was picked by the second most successful team in the competition. Chennai Super Kings bought the services of Ben Stokes for INR 16.25 crores. The English all-rounder will only be available as a specialist batter in the early parts of the IPL 2023.
Stokes with the bat in hand was not able to make a mark for himself. He only managed seven runs off six balls as he was dismissed by Afghanistan’s and Gujarat Titans premier spin bowler, Rashid Khan.
Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran was surprisingly expensive at the IPL 2023 auctions. With poor performances in previous seasons it came as a surprise when Lucknow SuperGiants picked Pooran for INR 16 crores.
In this list it was arguably only Pooran who had a decent outing with his team against a very poor Delhi Capitals line-up. He scored a quickfire 36 runs off 21 balls before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed.
Harry Brook
The English middle order batter has surprised everyone with his hard hitting skills. It came as no surprise when SunRisers Hyderabad picked Harry Brook for a whopping INR 13.25 crores.
Brook managed to score only 13 runs off 21 balls before he was dismissed by the last season’s purple cap winner Yuzvendra Chahal.
